"A 2024 study found that syntactically invalid Python code evokes a P600 response, a neural effect also associated with structural violations in natural language."
Kuo and Prat recorded electrophysiological responses while programmers read Python code containing syntactic and semantic violations. Syntax violations elicited P600 responses while semantic anomalies elicited N400 responses, showing that code comprehension involves neural processing effects also studied in natural-language comprehension.
