Garmin announced FAA certification of its Emergency Autoland system in May 2020. The system can select a suitable airport, navigate to it, conduct an approach, land, brake to a stop, and shut down the engine without human intervention. This is a remarkable demonstration of what narrowly engineered automation can achieve.
