"Measuring overall ‘makers’ productivity is an extremely difficult and biased endeavor"
The catch is that measuring overall ‘makers’ productivity is an extremely difficult and biased endeavor. Take the Stanford research paper on the ‘Ghost Coding’ problem from Yegor Denisov-Blanch, Igor Ciobanu, Simon Obstbaum and Michal Kosinski. The Stanford team claims that 9,5% of coders are ‘ghosts’, and that there’s a significant difference between home, office or hybrid coders. Specifically - 14% of remote engineers did almost no work, compared to 9% in hybrid and 6% in the office roles. The problem is that the researchers selected 70 commits from a bucket of 1.7 million commits, asked 10 experts to answer 7 questions about it, and built an ‘AI model’ to evaluate written code on the full dataset.
