"Frank Lantz argues that treating games as art and culture changes the ambitions, criticism, teaching, and design expectations applied to them."
In the book's opening argument, Lantz connects the art-form question to what experiences people expect from games, how games are discussed and critiqued, how they are taught, and how they might work as culture. + My own note: Code can have the beauty of a well-crafted poem, the satisfaction of polished carpentry; but also the brutal headaches of raising a skyscraper. Frank Lantz put it best when he wrote that making video games combines everything that’s hard about building a bridge - with everything that’s hard about composing an opera. Swap “games” with “software,” and you’ve got the perfect developer job description.
